The brief

Banks o’ Dee Sports Club in Aberdeen wanted to reduce rising electricity costs while continuing to invest in its facilities.

With a busy site to run, the club needed a practical way to generate more of its own electricity, reduce reliance on the grid and improve energy resilience.

Our approach

aes renewables installed a 100.37 kWp solar PV system, supported by CARES funding.
Battery storage was added so surplus solar energy could be stored and used when demand was higher.
The system includes:
  • 100.37 kWp solar PV system
  • 6 Tesla Powerwalls
  • 81 kWh total battery storage capacity
  • 2 Tesla Backup Gateways

The project also works alongside energy-efficient LED floodlighting, installed with support from Zero Waste Scotland, to help reduce overall electricity use across the site.

The outcome

Banks o’ Dee Sports Club now has more control over how electricity is generated, stored and used.

The completed system helps the club:
  • Generate renewable electricity on site
  • Reduce reliance on grid power
  • Store solar energy for later use
  • Improve resilience during outages
  • Support long-term sustainability targets
  • Strengthen its appeal to environmentally conscious sponsors and partners
