For Radio Skye, reliable heating and power are essential. The station needed to reduce energy costs and replace an ageing heating system without disrupting broadcasts.
Downtime wasn’t an option, so the upgrade had to be planned around daily operations.
aes renewables replaced the old heating system with a Mitsubishi Ecodan air source heat pump and pre-plumbed hot water cylinder.
To help reduce running costs, a 7.36 kWp solar PV system was installed on the roof, followed by SolarEdge battery storage to store surplus solar energy for later use.

The work was completed in phases so Radio Skye could stay on air throughout.
Radio Skye now has lower-carbon heating supported by renewable electricity generated on site.

The heat pump, solar PV system and battery storage work together as 1 practical energy setup. Solar panels generate electricity, the battery stores excess power and the heat pump uses electricity to heat the building.
For Radio Skye, this means more control over heating, power and running costs, without interrupting the service its listeners rely on.
