Lochside House on Scotland’s west coast was built in a completely off-grid location, so the owners needed a reliable way to generate, store and manage power on site.
The home also had an unusual roof design and a clear architectural style. The renewable energy system had to support the property’s energy needs without distracting from the building.
Working with architects Haysom Ward Miller, aes renewables designed and installed a solar PV and solar thermal system for the property.
The roof construction meant a standard mounting approach wasn’t suitable, so the system was designed around the roofline, exposed coastal setting and off-grid requirements.

The completed system helps Lochside House generate, store and use renewable energy on site.

Lochside House went on to be named House of the Year 2018 on Channel 4’s Grand Designs, with its renewable energy system forming part of a wider award-winning home.
